Decommissioning of the GACRC's z-cluster
Monday, November 20, 2017
The Georgia Advanced Computing Resource Center (GACRC) will decommission its oldest high performance computing cluster, z-cluster, at the beginning of November 2017. The z-cluster is already nine years old and needs to be replaced. Plans are in place to increase the computing capabilities of Sapelo in order to compensate for the decommissioning of the z-cluster.
Schedule
No new jobs will be accepted on z-cluster after September 29th.
A 30-day window will be in place for all submitted jobs to complete, otherwise they will be terminated. Please plan accordingly.
User access to the z-cluster will be removed November 3rd.
Migration/deletion of all data off the Panasas and escratch4 will be expected to be completed by November 3rd.

A brief step-by-step overview of the process of migrating from z-cluster to Sapelo is found here.
A more detailed overview of the differences between using the z-cluster and using Sapelo can be found here.
This document's topics will be expanded during the scheduled training activities related to the z-cluster decommissioning.
Training Sessions
The GACRC will also host training sessions in September and October for researchers who need assistance with the transition from z-cluster to Sapelo.
More information about these training sessions will be posted on the GACRC’s training web page, at gacrc.uga.edu/training as well as on the GACRC's wiki, at wiki.gacrc.uga.edu/wiki/Training
